Oh, to fit like a glove

For me, September always means going and buying a new pencil case, new shoes and maybe a new backpack. I still do this even though I left school a while ago. Really I do.

This is also the time of year to knuckle down and get stuck into something new to carry you though the darker months. So how about learning how to make things fit? Most people don't fit standard sizing and there is a certain amount tweaking needed if you are sewing clothes for yourself.  If you have dreamt of designing and making your own clothes that really fit, then Pinworks is here to the rescue!

Due to demand, we have launched 'An introduction to Pattern Cutting' with a lovely pattern cutting genius called Christine. She used to pattern cut for Mary Quant, amongst others, including Oxfords very own Anabelinda's.

The course spans six whole days, spread out over three months, and covers an awful lot of learning. You will construct your own block from your own measurements, and then design and make a skirt from the block.

Just Christmas you could be wowing all your friends with clothes that flatter and fit like a glove. You can then take great pride is saying " Oh, this little old thing? I just whipped it up myself...."

If you would like to know a bit more, or would like to book - just pop in or give us a ring at Darn It & Stitch.

Ice cream Sunday

Well, wasn't Sunday a stonker?! So hot!

So while heat, and sun and staying cool are top of the agenda, an ice cream colour theme presented itself to me with the arrival of the beautiful new ribbons from Mayarts.

Mayarts do proper ribbons. From beautiful simple velvets to sheer polka dots and printed cotton tapes. Interesting and good quality. Have a look at this beauty ( below)  1.5 " striped grosgrain perfection! Great for bag handles, apron tapes and amazing gift wrapping..... I quite fancy making some into a belt myself, with a vintage buckle. Simple yet effective.

Four small walls

Hello and welcome!

I have finally got  to 'start a blog' on the never ending To Do list! I can now tick that one off with gusto.

Darn It & Stitch is a little tiddler of a shop nestled down the side of Oxford Town Hall. I like to think it is maybe one of the smallest haberdasheries ever,* and we all know that the best things come in small packages.

The shop contains silky, squidgey yarns, vintage bits and bobs, useful bits of haberdashery hardware and quite possibly the finest selection of ribbon in Oxford. The 'cream off the top' if you like, we are a deli of delights for anyone who loves a stitch or two.

We have stocked various fabrics over the last two years, and at last the time has come to expand the range. We are going to squeeze as many bolts of lovely cotton fabrics in as these four small walls will allow. Here is a taster of the first batch - and there are many more to come.

(* I obviously need to check this out before I start to claim such a thing!)
